The heads on my 318 look to be an original factory red color---can this help in identfying them---they do not look repainted and are not the same color as the block-blue???

If the color of the heads is original it can point you in the right direction but the only accurate way to identify them is to get the casting numbers and that will tell you where they came from. The casting number is located on top of one of the intake runners under the valve cover. If you can get me that number I should be able to tell you more.
