We don’t know about you, but we’re SICK of winter. Racing ended months ago, it’s been cold, we’re bored, and the car looks great and as ready as we are to do something. Well, for the Mopar nation, Phil Painter and family come to the rescue just in the nick of time. March is next month and with it comes the best Mopar party of the year, MATS 2013.
MATS (formerly known as Mopars at the Strip) is everything we love about cars in general and Mopars in particular rolled into one. A drag race with lots of classes and exciting racing—yeah, we’re in. A car show with drop dead gorgeous and amazing Mopars practically as far as the eye can see—oh yeah. Parties, as in two concerts for MATS attendees on Friday and Saturday—live rock music with libations, you don’t even have to ask us, we’ll just show up. And it all happens in Las Vegas—bam, closed, done and did we’re so there!
As you should be, there that is. Mopar fans come from all around North America and the world. Seriously, we made great friends last year including our friend Joe who came all the way from Austria to attend. Mopars from across America and Canada will descend on Las Vegas in the zillions (OK, not really, but there are thousands and thousands of us there each year) and help put on the best show and party you’ll be invited to this year. And you are invited. The Painters have always put on a tremendous show and their love of people and Mopars is always apparent.
Let’s start with the car show. You want lots of classes to show your car or just wander and drool? OK, how about: Stock, Restified/Clone, Modified, Pro-Street, The World’s Ultimate Mopar, Gen X, Platinum, Fun Field, Open Fun Field, and Popular Choice. Whew! Make sure your camera or cell phone has plenty of storage space for lots of photos, and if you’re bringing your Mopar, we guarantee you that there’s a class for you.
Drag racing, it wouldn’t be a party without it. There are 16, count ‘em, 16 classes in which to run. Contributing Editor Alex Rogeo will be racing the Team MoparMax Maulin’ Magnum in the Modern Muscle class for late model 5.7 and 6.1 HEMI cars. Have you ever seen a classic HEMI Roadrunner or ‘Cuda run the quarter mile? It’s a sight and sound that you need to experience if you haven’t. Entry fees are modest and payouts are great, so come and race or just come and watch the racing. If you just want to get down the track and see what your Mopar can do, there’s even a time only class for that. And you just have to cheer on the Mopars in the Pony Car Wars, which pits late model Challengers against late model Camaros and Mustangs.
