The second season of the Midwest Nostalgia Super Stock Series presented this year by Victory Performance Products and Mickey Thompson Tires began at the same track where it started last season, Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., but with more cars and a different winner.
The 2010 five-race series will end at the National Finals at Kansas City International Raceway Sept. 17-19.
As they did last season, Mopar cars and drivers dominated the St. Louis event with all of the last five cars left in Eliminations all being Mopar. Veteran racer Joe Johnson and his 1963 Dodge pushed the always tough Doug Duell driving his Fury wagon hard enough that the seasoned pro sportsman driver broke out in the final. That gave Johnson his first Midwest Nostalgia Super Stock title and the lead in the Victory Performance Products points fund.
The field was one of the toughest of the series’ short history. Mopar superstars Al Corda and Doug Duell of NHRA Stock and Super Stock fame made their first appearances in the circuit at St. Louis.
Corda brought out his brand new Dart and Midwest hitter Doug Duell, who is new to the series this year, brought his beautifully turned out nine-second ’64 Plymouth wagon. Both men say they plan to run all of the Victory Performance Parts-backed series this season.
