Even Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane could not slow down the Mopar gang in town for last weekend’s Thompson Metal Mopar Thunder at Bristol Dragway. The actor who played that Dukes of Hazzard character, James Best, was a special guest at the event, along with the perhaps even more famous “General Lee.”

Cruising the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway was available to spectators thanks to several Dukes of Hazzard car owners who drove their cars for the event. It was $20 per carload.

Action began on Friday night with the popular Mopar vs. The World. Steve Foley of Barbourville, Ky. took home the top prize over Tony Johnson of Dandridge. The race was extremely close with Foley running a 7.541 elapsed time on a 7.54 dial-in to Johnson’s 7.717 E.T. on a 7.71 dial-in. Foley left the line just a bit faster, using a .051 reaction time to Johnson’s .056 R.T.
