It’s been ten years now that Bristol Dragway has hosted a Chrysler-only event; the fabled ‘Thunder Valley’ in Northeast Tennessee has seen the event executed with a variety of ups and downs. For 2009, it was moved to the first weekend in September, Labor Day, and the 10th Annual Thompson Metal Mopar Thunder was heralded a success by many.

Cruising the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway was an option for spectators thanks to several Dukes of Hazzard car owners who drove their cars for the event. It was $20 per carload.

Of course being that the facility is multi-faceted, things on the racetracks were a highlight. One very popular event was the Dukes of Hazard speedway cruise. Several enthusiast-owned Chargers were available to take spectators for drives around the banks of the world’s fastest ½ mile raceway; $20.00 a carload got you a handful of laps, and there were a lot of takers. Actor James Best, who played Rosco P. Coltrane on the popular series, was on hand to sign autographs.
