Mopars at Englishtown

Although the death on Saturday of Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta cast a pall over the Sunday eliminations, leaving no one very enthusiastic about racing, the competition continued to completion at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Driving her ProCare Rx Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, Melanie Troxel scored a first-round win over fellow Mopar-powered driver Jerry Toliver 4.935/317.79 to 4.914/308.92, before losing to Funny Car legend John Force in the second round.  (Debbie Gastelu photo)

In the next round Tommy Johnson Jr. was Force’s victim, as both had to pedal with Force getting the tires hooked up first to take the win.

Mike Ashley drove for the last time this season, after announcing that he needed to devote more time to his mortgage business, Lend America, in the current economic conditions. He did not make the field.
