Beckman takes Charger R/T Funny Car to NHRA Gatornationals win

Although Matt Hagan (far lane) left the starting line first, Jack Beckman came on strong to take the Funny Car win.

It was an all-Dodge Charger final round at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL, as Jack Beckman defeated Matt Hagan. See the complete race report at here.

Next on the schedule for the Mopar and Dodge//SRT squad is the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, scheduled for April 6-8 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event will be the first at the venue since the dragstrip was reconfigured to accommodate the unique “four-wide” drag racing format, which features drivers competing in four separate lanes simultaneously.  [03/29/18]

Body explodes off Hagan Funny Car but he still wins the round

Matt Hagan had problems at Gainesville during his quarter final match against Robert Hight, when both cars blew the bodies off (Hight first, then Hagan). Hagan crossed the finish line with a 4.027/291.26 win.   [03/29/18]

Three Challenger Drag Paks in NHRA Factory Stock competition

Leah Pritchett

In addition to her customary seat in the Papa John’s/Mopar Dodge Top Fuel dragster, Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) driver Pritchett also took the wheel of a supercharged Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak in the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown category.

Pritchett, with crew chief and new DSR employee Kevin Helms on hand, drove at the first of seven NHRA Factory Stock Showdown events in which she will compete this year.

Joining Pritchett in the fierce, competitive field of 30-plus entries in Factory Stock Showdown was a name familiar to Mopar and Dodge//SRT fans — 2012 NHRA Pro Stock World Champion Allen Johnson. Johnson drove a Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak owned by Jeff Teuton, with additional vehicle preparation and support provided by Don Schumacher Motorsports (DSM) and Mopar Dodge//SRT engineers. Unfortunately, he did not make the eight-car field out of a whopping 30 cars trying to qualify.

The third Dodge driver taking part in the Factory Stock Showdown was Geoff Turk. Turk made National Muscle Car Association history at the Bradenton, FL, event, becoming the first driver in the series to break into the seven-second range with a 7.996-second elapsed time at 170.10 mph during qualifying for the event on March 10. Turk is already unofficially the fastest in the NHRA Factory Stock Showdown class after running an 8.02-second elapsed time in his Blackbird Drag Pak at an NHRA Division 3 event last October.   [03/29/18]

Former Viper plant to become home of car collection

The Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, the former production home of the iconic Dodge Viper, will get a second life as an internal meeting and display space that will showcase the FCA’s concept and historic vehicle collection.

Renamed Conner Center, the former manufacturing facility, tucked in a Detroit neighborhood just south of the famed 8 Mile Road, will have space to exhibit 85 of the nearly 400 concept and historic vehicles that will now be stored onsite under one roof. Previously, the Company’s extensive collection was housed in several locations.

Approximately 77,000 of the plant’s nearly 400,000 square-feet of floor space will be dedicated to displaying vehicles like the 1902 Rambler, the oldest in the collection, to one of the most significant, the 1924 Chrysler Touring. Conner’s administrative offices will be converted into nearly 22,000 square-feet of meeting space that can accommodate gatherings of various sizes. It is expected that the facility, built in 1966, could also open its doors to the public in the future. The building should be available for use by internal groups and departments in the second quarter of 2018. [03/29/18]

Viper memorabilia auction to benefit United Way

Production of the Dodge Viper came to an end on Aug. 31, 2017, and with that, the decommissioning of the plant began. As the assembly line was dismantled, office furniture removed and rooms cleaned out in preparation to repurpose the facility into meeting and display space, hundreds of pieces of Viper memorabilia, as well as a few items related to the Plymouth Prowler, were identified and salvaged. The decision was made to auction these items off to benefit the United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

After the Company’s Historical Services group selected the items that would be kept for display or archival purposes, more than 1,800 items remained – including eight signed hoods; more than 500 pieces of art, prints, signage and posters; and an assortment of Viper merchandise from key chains to apparel to coffee mugs – that will be available for auction.

One of the many available pieces of art is a sketch of the Viper GTS with portraits of the three former Chrysler executives responsible for its development – Bob Lutz, President and CEO; Tom Gale, Vice President – Product Design and International Operations; and Francois Castaing, Vice President – Vehicle Engineering and General Manager of Powertrain Operations. The limited edition print – number 14 of 300 – features the signatures of the three executives along with an authentic blue Viper GTS emblem.

The auction began March 21 and will run through April 13. A full list of items with descriptions and bidding instructions are available at here[03/29/18]

Terry Chandler given posthumous award at Hall of Fame

Not only did Jack Beckman get to finally achieve his goal of winning the Gatornationals, but his victory was also a sentimental one for the driver of Terry and Doug Chandler’s Infinite Hero Foundation Funny Car.

“I flew in a day earlier, and on Thursday I went to the Hall of Fame [dinner]. I got to present Johnny Gray [Terry’s brother] with the Pat Garlits award in honor of Terry Chandler, whose name is still on the side of our car and is the one who made all of this possible. There are 21 of us who have jobs today because of Terry Chandler and how big her heart was, and now her husband, Doug, wants to carry it on. He’s loving it because he knows Terry is looking down and saying, ‘Alright -- my boys did it.’”   [03/29/18]

Any Polara fans out there?

One of 41 Max Wedge/3-speed Polaras sold in America during the 1963 model year, and one of only five currently listed in Galen’s Registry, this stunning Max Wedge Polara is a model of collectability.

Chrysler’s top option for power hungry gearheads, this car’s legendary 426 cubic inch Ramcharger V8 creates a dyno-proven 409 horsepower. Behind that mill, the car’s restorers substituted a tough A833 4-speed for the correct T85 3-speed that’s included with the sale. There’s a rebuilt front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension that’s been completely restored to include old school manual steering.

It’s for sale through RK Motors Charlotte. For more information or to make an offer go to here[03/29/18]
