Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder Head for Gen III HEMI Engines

The new Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder Head for Gen III HEMI is a big step up for the late model HEMI world. There’s extra meat in the ports to allow for serious porting, rocker bosses are stronger, valve angles tipped to allow bigger valves and better flow.


We in the Mopar universe are sort of used to being third in line. Some company announces a great new hot rod product, “Available now for Chevy and Ford.” We ask them about Mopar and they tell us they’re working on it. Engine blocks, transmissions, rear ends, you name it. But something new and exciting is happening at Edelbrock.


Way back in the day, Vic Edelbrock Sr., in response to a question about when he was going to make aftermarket heads for the then state-of-the-art Gen II HEMI, allegedly replied, “When Hell freezes over.” Well, it got cold in Hell back in 2014 when Edelbrock introduced their Gen II HEMI heads with a complete new take on the design of HEMI heads.


And now, a new cold front hit Hell as Edelbrock introduces their new Gen III HEMI heads. The cylinder head choices for original Mopar small and large block engines is pretty good, as it should be for engines that have been around for 40 years on average. But for late model fans, the pickings are thin. You have an assortment of factory 5.7, 6.1, 6.2, and 6.4L heads to choose from. Some are better than others for porting and modifying. As to aftermarket heads, Thitek was to Late Model HEMI’s as Black was the Model T Ford: you could have any aftermarket head you wanted, as long as it was Thitek. But Edelbrock has now joined the fray, and all we can say is, choice and competition is good.


The Edelbrock Performer RPM is a bolt-on performance upgrade for 2003-Present Gen III HEMI 5.7L, 6.1L, 6.2L and 6.4L engines, so all the bases are covered. It’s designed with the Eagle intake and exhaust port location and can be used with the 5.7L Eagle and later stock intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, valve covers, rockers, spark plugs and accessories, as well as Hellcat components. These cylinder heads have been machined to be used on either the driver or passenger side of the block.

You can see the thick cylinder deck and large intake ports from this angle. The rocker bosses are reinforced and stronger than OEM.

A nice plus is only one part number, applicable to either right or left side of the engine.

A lot of engineering went into improving exhaust flow right out of the box. And there’s lots of material for porting.

Cylinder heads that are stronger and better flowing than any factory MOPAR as is, and with potential to support a lot of flow and power. What more can we want?


This cylinder head features fully CNC machined combustion chambers along with CNC profiled bowls and port entries/exits for improved air flow. It also features more material in the deck and reinforced combustion chambers for increased cylinder pressures—ideal for boosted and nitrous oxide applications. The rocker bosses have been reinforced for improved stability and strength. This should allow envelope pushers to push the RPM harder and higher. Extra material has been added around the intake and exhaust ports to allow for porting in racing applications. The intake and exhaust valves have been tipped away from the bore wall to accommodate the larger valves, while maintaining compatibility with OEM valvetrain components. The seat diameters have also been increased for improved heat transfer and durability.


The extra porting the meaty port walls will allow, combined with the larger and better angled valves speaks to the potential for serious flow. We can’t wait to start seeing some dyno numbers from Mopar engine builders using the new heads. We’ll be going into more depth in a future story, but for now, here are the specs:
