Team Fel-Pro wins 2017 Hot Rodders of Tomorrow championship

The Final Half of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge 2017 Dual Championship took place this past week at the PRI Show in Indianapolis, IN. It included 18 teams that came from coast to coast to battle to become one of the Top 4 teams to move on and compete in the Elite eight playoffs for the 2017 National Championship at the PRI Show Dec. 8th and 9th.

A total of forty-five teams competed at the SEMA and PRI shows just to get into the Elite Eight competition. The top four SEMA show seeds against the top four PRI show seeds.

The top four teams that competed at the PRI Show were Team K&N, from Burton Center for Arts & Tech in Salem, VA, who came in fourth place with an average of 20:59. Team Derale from Forsyth Central High School in Cumming, GA, came in third place with an average of 20:25. Top Fuel racer Leah Pritchett has taken a Drag Pak car down the racetrack several times this year.

We hear that retired Mopar Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson will be moving into the expanded Factory Stock class next season. There are seven NHRA national events that will run the Factory Stock Showdown.

Other pro drivers who have already driven in some of the FS events include Erica Enders, Bo Butner and Leah Pritchett. Other drivers reportedly are planning on driving the COPO Camaro, Ford Cobra Jet and Dodge Challenger Drag Pak cars.

2018 Factory Stock Showdown

March 15-18: Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Fla.

April 27-29: NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, Charlotte, N.C.

June 15-17: NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, Bristol, Tenn.

Newport Car Museum opens in Rhode Island

Since it opened on June 1 this year the Newport Car Museum has become an instant hit with car clubs and tour groups exploring the Northeast and especially the popular vacation destination of Newport, Rhode Island. The museum’s location in nearby Portsmouth, R.I., is a 114,000-square-foot building once devoted to missile manufacturing with 50,000 square feet of exhibit space, another 5,000 for special events, and a free parking area for 300+ cars.

An artistic presentation of some 60 cars represent seven decades of automotive design – from the fabulous ’50s to today’s hottest designs. Five separate galleries showcase Ford/Shelbys, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars and Mopars.

Special wall art (much of it consigned); theatrical lighting; turntables; and videos with directional sound celebrate the cars as works of art. There are no barrier ropes around the cars, and pieces from an eclectic collection of Mid-Century modern furniture (representing iconic designers such as Eames, Knoll Bassett, Jacobsen and Wegner) are dispersed throughout the museum, giving visitors a comfortable place for rest and reflection. The one to two hours it typically takes to tour the museum includes time for test driving skills on one of the museum’s six driving simulators, just like those used by Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 Team.  [12/16/17]

Chrysler 300 named Edmund’s most wanted large car

The Chrysler 300 is the winner of the Large Car segment in Edmunds’ Most Wanted awards. This recognition honors the most in-demand vehicles based on sales, days-to-turn and shopper interest data on Edmunds.

The 2018 Edmunds Most Wanted Award winner for each of the 17 segments was determined by analyzing data from the first nine months of 2017 for all models on sale during that period. For each segment, Edmunds identified which models had the highest levels of two types of shopper consideration based on Edmunds site activity, the highest sales and the lowest average days-to-turn. The rankings for each of these data sets were weighted equally to determine the winners in each segment.

Offering class-exclusive innovations and advanced technology at the driver’s fingertips, the 300 lineup includes the Uconnect 4 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, improved features and an award-winning interface.

Available on the Touring, Touring L, 300S and Limited is the segment’s most advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which seamlessly engages at any speed to enable optimal traction and control based on conditions, driving style and road surface.

Standard on the 300C and available on the 300S, the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine with 363 horsepower is the most powerful V-8 engine in its class.   [12/16/17]
